Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book?

Mezquita tickets: Book at least 1 week ahead, especially in high season (April–May, September–October).

Accommodation: 2–3 months ahead for the Patio Festival (May) and Holy Week (March–April). 1 month is enough in low season.

What is the average budget for 2 days?

For a 2-day/1-night stay, expect roughly:

  • Budget: €150–220 (hostel, set lunches)
  • Mid-range: €300–440 (3-star hotel, decent restaurants)
  • Comfort: €550–860 (4-star hotel, good restaurants)

See our detailed budget guide.

What is the best time to avoid the crowds?

Low season: November to February (excluding Christmas holidays). Mild temperatures (10–18°C) and few tourists.

Avoid: Mid-April to early May (Patio Festival), Holy Week, and July–August (extreme heat + tourists).

See our seasonal guide.

Do I need to hire a car?

Not recommended for the city itself: The historic centre is pedestrian and compact. Parking is expensive and scarce.

Useful for: A trip to Medina Azahara (10 km) or an Andalusia road trip (Seville, Granada).

Alternative: AVE train to other cities, shuttle bus to Medina Azahara.

Which neighbourhood should I stay in?

Judería/Centre: Right in the heart of things, close to the Mezquita. Ideal for 1–2 days.

San Basilio: Quieter, with authentic patios, well located.

Ribera: Near the river, lively at night, cheaper.

See our accommodation guide with a hotel selection by neighbourhood.
