The International Guitar Festival of Córdoba has been running since 1980. That's 46 editions. It's one of the few festivals in Europe where classical guitar, flamenco and contemporary music share the same programme — not as a compromise, but because Córdoba is one of the few cities where all three traditions have genuine roots.

The 46th edition runs 24 June – 10 July 2027.

Historic venues

The three main venues are chosen deliberately. The Gran Teatro (1,000 seats) handles the larger classical and rock acts — the acoustics work, the formality fits. The Teatro Góngora (500 seats) is where the flamenco guitar masters perform; the smaller space changes how you hear it. You can see a player's hands, track the attack on every note. The Teatro de la Axerquía is the outdoor stage for contemporary and rock acts, starting later in the evening when the heat breaks.

2027 programme

The full programme for the 46th edition is typically announced in April or May. Past editions have featured world-class artists such as Vicente Amigo, Luz Casal, Love of Lesbian, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Loquillo and many more across the three venues. The festival consistently programmes a mix of:

  • Classical guitar at the Gran Teatro and Teatro Góngora
  • Flamenco guitar masters in the intimate Góngora setting
  • Contemporary and rock acts at the outdoor Teatro de la Axerquía
  • Masterclasses and lutherie courses at the Conservatorio Rafael Orozco

Ticket prices typically range from €10–45 per concert, with season passes (abonos) available at 20–25% off for three or more shows.

About the festival

Since its founding in 1980, the festival has hosted Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Gary Moore, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Pat Metheny, Carlos Santana — the list reads like a survey of guitar playing in the late 20th century. The guitar festival does not just showcase guitar; it has become part of the argument for why the guitar matters.

The education strand runs alongside the concerts, with around 200 students from across the world attending masterclasses with the same artists who performed the night before. It changes the atmosphere of the city during those two weeks: Córdoba feels like it is thinking about music, not just hearing it.

Insider tips

Booking tip

Book Teatro Góngora flamenco nights early

The 500-seat Góngora flamenco shows and the headline acts at the Axerquía are the ones expected to go first. Book these well ahead. The classical concerts at the larger Gran Teatro are easier to get closer to the date.

Best time

Combine the Axerquía show with dinner first

July dinners in Córdoba start at 21:00 anyway. Book a terrace table near the venue for 20:00, eat light, and walk to the Axerquía for the 22:00–22:30 start. The Gran Teatro and Góngora shows begin at 20:30, so those work better with a late dinner after. The warm-night walk through the centro is part of the experience either way.

Local custom

Check the masterclass programme if you play

The education strand is open to all levels, not just conservatory students. A one-off masterclass with a visiting artist costs a fraction of the concert ticket and gives you access to the musician in a way no audience seat can.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Córdoba Guitar Festival 2027?

The 46th International Guitar Festival of Córdoba runs from 24 June to 10 July 2027. The Gran Teatro and Teatro Góngora concerts start at 20:30; the outdoor Teatro de la Axerquía shows begin at 22:00–22:30. The full programme is typically announced in April or May and is available on the official website at guitarracordoba.es.

How much do Guitar Festival tickets cost?

Tickets typically range from €10 to €45 depending on the event and venue. Teatro Góngora flamenco concerts cost €12–15. Gran Teatro shows run €10–27. The Teatro de la Axerquía outdoor concerts are €25–45. If you're attending three or more concerts at the same venue, the abono gives 25% off; the Abono à la Carte (three or more shows across any venue) saves 20%.

Do I need to book Guitar Festival tickets in advance?

Yes — the Teatro Góngora flamenco nights and headline acts at the Axerquía sell out first. Book those early. Gran Teatro concerts are generally easier to get closer to the date. Tickets are available at entradas.teatrocordoba.es, by phone (+34 957 48 02 37), via the IMAE Teatros app, or on-site at the Góngora box office once the festival opens.

What kind of music is at the Córdoba Guitar Festival?

Three genres share the programme: classical guitar at the Gran Teatro, flamenco guitar masters at the Teatro Góngora, and contemporary and rock acts at the outdoor Teatro de la Axerquía. The festival has run since 1980 and is the only European festival where all three guitar traditions share equal billing. Past headliners include Vicente Amigo, Luz Casal, Love of Lesbian, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Loquillo.

Are there guitar masterclasses at the Córdoba Guitar Festival?

Yes. The festival runs an education strand at the Rafael Orozco Conservatory alongside the main concerts: masterclasses with visiting artists, lutherie (guitar-making) courses, flamenco accompaniment, flamenco dance and singing, and contemporary technique courses. More than 200 students from around the world attend each year. The courses are open to all levels, not just conservatory students.
