How to book

Official booking sites

  • iryo.eu — iryo tickets. Cheapest fares released 60 days ahead.

Booking strategy

  • Best price: Book 2–4 weeks ahead on iryo or AVLO for fares around €24–25.
  • Flexible travel: Renfe AVE offers seat reservation changes if you need flexibility. Budget operators are typically non-refundable.
  • Last-minute: Standard Renfe AVE fares (€50–70) are usually available the day of travel. iryo and AVLO sell out faster.

Rail pass users

Eurail and Interrail passes require a seat reservation surcharge (€10–30) on Spanish AVE services. Budget operators (AVLO, iryo) do not accept passes at all. At these price levels, buying a regular ticket is almost always cheaper.
