A bar menú del día on the Corredera

Most people who sit down on Plaza de la Corredera order whatever the nearest waiter waves at them. Bar El Pozo is worth walking past the waving for one reason: a printed menú del día that costs €13.95 and covers a starter, a main and a dessert, bread included. If you want a bar menú del día in Córdoba on the Corredera without the guesswork, this is the one to check first.

The venue describes its own cooking as neighbourhood bar food: à la carte dishes, generous raciones and an honest daily menú in the middle of the square. That is a modest pitch, and it suits the place. This is not a destination restaurant. It is a square-side bar that happens to publish its prices.

The set lunch, in detail

Price and content as printed on the venue's own menu page, checked on 2026-10-16 (menus change, so recheck before you go). The venue's menu page lists the set lunch for weekday lunch service (Monday to Friday). Google lists the bar closed on Wednesdays, so confirm the set lunch day by phone or visit.

The choices are short:

  • Starter: salmorejo or mixed salad
  • Main: puntillitas or grilled pork loin
  • Dessert: naranja al antiguo or cheesecake

Take the salmorejo. The venue describes it as the cold tomato cream of Córdoba, made with tomato, garlic, olive oil and bread, and on the à la carte list it is the dish you would order anyway. Between the two mains, puntillitas is the more local-sounding pick over the pork loin. Naranja al antiguo is the dessert to choose if you want something that is not a slice of cake.

Beyond the menú: the carta

Outside the set lunch the à la carte list is what you would hope for on this square. A wedge of tortilla is €6.00. The flamenquín de cerdo, the breaded and fried pork roll stuffed with cured ham, is €12.50. Berenjenas a la miel, fried aubergine sticks with cane molasses, are €7.50 or €11.50 depending on the portion, and rabo de toro, oxtail stew, is €18.50. The Picoteo Cordobés sampler (flamenquín, aubergine, salmorejo and omelette) is €21.00. Prices as printed on 2026-10-16.

If you want the dishes explained before you order, see our entries on flamenquín and salmorejo.

Why El Pozo and not Taberna San Miguel

Taberna San Miguel is the right call when the plan is pisto manchego, barrel vermouth and standing at a counter near Plaza San Miguel, with a spend of about €8–12 on a few tapas. El Pozo answers a different question: you want to sit down to a full three-course lunch at a fixed price on the Corredera, with a printed carta to fall back on if the menú does not appeal. Pick San Miguel for the drink and the dish it is famous for. Pick El Pozo for a fixed-price lunch.

The square it sits on

The Corredera you see today was built in 1683 by the architect Antonio Ramós Valdés on the orders of the corregidor Francisco Ronquillo Briceño, and it takes its name from the bullfights once held on it. Order a salmorejo here and you are eating on what was an arena. The bar sits in the centro district.

Practical notes

  • Address: Plaza de la Corredera 39, 14002 Córdoba, as confirmed by Google.
  • Reservations: the venue says bookings are handled by phone at the bar itself, so ask at the counter or call during opening hours.
  • Reputation: Restaurantguru reports a Google rating of 4.8 (undated), with reviewers singling out croquettes, salmorejo and calamari.
  • Hours: Google lists Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 12:00-23:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00-00:00, and Sunday 12:00-23:00. Google's weekly closing day is Wednesday. The venue's contact page says daily 12:00-00:00 but calls its own details placeholders, so a visit or a call confirms the real hours, and the same goes for the set lunch.

Insider tips

Money tip

Do the sums: set lunch against the carta

At €13.95 (venue site, 2026-10-16) the menú gives you three courses. On the carta, a flamenquín alone is €12.50 and rabo de toro is €18.50. Unless you want a sampler, the set lunch is the cheaper way to eat a full meal here.

What to order

Start with the salmorejo, keep the flamenquín for the carta

Salmorejo is a starter choice on the menú, so take it there. The flamenquín is not on the set lunch list, so add it à la carte if you want the dish this bar is best placed to settle.

Booking tip

Ask at the bar; there is no online booking

The venue says reservations are taken by phone at the bar itself. Stop at the counter before you sit, and remember the venue's menu page lists the set lunch for weekday lunch service (Monday to Friday).
