The terrace
Casa Rubio's position is exceptional. The terrace looks out over the Guadalquivir River, the Roman Bridge in the foreground, the Mezquita rising behind. At sunset, when golden light floods the ancient stones, it is genuinely one of the finer views in the city. The food is the supporting cast here — and it knows it.
The fish
Though Córdoba sits more than 150 kilometres from the coast, Casa Rubio has built a reputation around seafood. The fritura de pescado — a generous platter of mixed fried fish — comes out properly crispy and golden: calamari, anchovies, prawns, small whole fish, all done right. The gambas al ajillo (prawns in garlic-infused olive oil) arrive sizzling at the table, the oil begging to be mopped up with bread.
Paella by advance order
The paella needs to be requested ahead of time and serves at least two. Rice cooked in a wide metal pan with seafood, saffron, and fish stock, arriving steaming with the socarrat (toasted crust at the bottom) that makes a paella worth eating.
For a sunset dinner
The terrace is one of Córdoba's better romantic options as the light fades. For more ideas, see our romantic Córdoba guide.
Practical details
Reserve terrace seats in advance, especially for lunch and sunset slots. The location is touristy and prices reflect that. Budget €30–45. The view alone justifies coming. Best reached after a walk across the Roman Bridge.
